Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz

The final season (2016) of the Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz is right around the corner! This program began in 2014 as an attempt to better understand the critical factors causing massive continent-wide declines in the Rusty Blackbird (Euphagus carolinus) population. Although the species has only been granted Special Concern status by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC), Rusty Blackbirds have officially been elevated to Endangered in Nova Scotia, which means they are facing imminent extirpation from our province. As a birder, participation is as simple as seeking out Rusty Blackbirds between mid-April and mid-May and reporting your observations.
