Steve has lived in Cape Breton most of his life and has an interest in all nature and photography. He was amazed at the variety of birds in Nova Scotia but when he discovered his first Yellow-breasted Chat in his backyard it sparked his interest and he logged his first eBird report. A day later he met his first birder, Laura Saunders, who encouraged him to get out and bird and took him under her wing. With his new found interest in birds he found a new focus for his photography and he was hooked.

He has spent the last 20 years working in the IT industry as a technical consultant specializing in data analytics. With his background, he sees the importance of data gathering to better understand birds to help with their conservation.
